Display repair Kenwood TM-V7 transceiver

At the beginning of March 2021 I bought a TM-V7 tranceiver.

The device worked fine but the letters on the screen were rather dark.

Then quickly looked on the internet for a solution.

Apparently this is a known issue. The LEDs that provide the contrast are worn out.

OK1TK describes in detail how to solve this problem.

I bought these leds on ebay : 10x LED Weiß 3 mm , NSPW310BS , NICHIA.

Opening the device was easy. Disassembling the display must be done carefully.

The connections of the LEDs must be folded in a Z. Keep an eye on the polarity because the wires are too long and need to be shortened.

Thanks to this repair, my display is now clearly legible again.
